MSc International Real Estate Investment and Finance

This is a fast-track conversion course for graduates from disciplines unrelated to construction and real estate, which leads to Chartered Surveyor status. It is designed for those wishing to pursue a career in the real estate investment and finance business in international markets.


The course offers:

    •    a foundation for a professional career in global real estate investment and finance markets

    •    an optional international field trip

    •    opportunity for an internship

    •    accreditation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)

    •    part-time, full-time and continuing professional development study options.


The course focuses on real estate markets and institutions, appraisal, finance, investment and development valuation. It will develop the skills and abilities necessary as an adviser on these investment related aspects of the real estate profession.

Course focus


The course focuses on real estate markets and institutions, appraisal, finance, investment and development valuation. You will develop the skills and abilities necessary as an adviser on these investment related aspects of the real estate profession.

Full-time, One Year


Weeks 1 - 15

    •    Property and Construction Economics* (15 credit points)

Weeks 16 - 30


    •    Professional Practice* (15 credit points)

    •    Investment and Development Valuation and Appraisal (15 credit points)

    •    Real Estate Investment** (15 credit points)

    •    Real Estate Funding and Finance (15 credit points)


Weeks 31 - 45


    •    Dissertation, Consultancy Project or Internship* (60 credit points)


Part-time, Year One


Weeks 1 - 15

Dissertation, consultancy project or internship?


You have the option to choose a dissertation, a consultancy project or professional internship.


The internship option will consist of approximately two months working within a company on a specific project. Internships are subject to availability and can be undertaken in the UK or abroad.


How will I learn?


A range of methods for teaching and learning are used within the courses. These include a balanced mix of contact and non contact study activities ranging from:

    •    lectures

    •    interactive seminars

    •    student presentations

    •    group-based projects and exercises, to directed and self-directed research.


Professional practice


You will have the opportunity to take part in an international residential field trip. The week-long trip, part of the Professional Practice Module, provides a crucial international dimension to postgraduate study and is a key aspect to the development of your employability.
