Master’s in International Business Management
The Aberystwyth MSc International Business Management is MBM accredited by the Association of MBAs. Very few business schools throughout the world have achieved this prestigious programme accreditation. Students in the Aberystwyth School of Business and Management come from many parts of the business world, including significant numbers from the rapidly growing economic areas of China and the Indian sub-continent: so that both the content and the context of your Master’s in International Business Management will prepare you for engagement in business in the global market place.
This degree will suit you whatever your first degree - the Aberystwyth MBM programme will provide you with a solid grounding in business and management, whether or not you have studied them before; whether or not you already have some business experience – some of our students do, some don’t; if you are committed to a career in International Business; if you have the focus, aspiration and commitment to succeed.
Every aspect of the Aberystwyth MBM programme is designed to enhance your employability: indeed, successful completion of the MBM is in itself certain to do so; but we set more store by the hugely enhanced knowledge, abilities and skills with which you will graduate. We believe that prospective employers take a similar view.
In addition, we offer a career-development programme for professional managers, aimed at widening your knowledge, skills, experience and understanding of management and business practices. Our aspiration is to make you a better leader, a better manager and a better communicator.
Leadership in the International Context
The rich cultural diversity of the international student body of Aberystwyth SMB is a great experience in and of itself: but in addition, it will help you make important discoveries about the world of international business, the requirements of different market places and the importance of cultural awareness in dealing with business colleagues and customers from all over the world: in the UK and Western Europe, and in the emerging markets of new-accession EU states, China, India and others. A good leader in any field will be open to new ideas, new people and new ways of doing things. In modules dealing specifically with International Commerce and in sharing with student colleagues from all round the world, Aberystwyth SMB offers you great opportunities to learn from other business cultures.
Managing the Organisation
In the first semester, the MBM offers a good range of modules which introduce the fundamentals of Business and Management, which will apply to any sphere of business activity – and, in many cases, to many kinds of non-business organisation. In the first semester, modules in Human Resource Management, Research Skills for Managers and Information Management Systems are designed to enable you to maximise the productivity and efficiency of an organisation, focusing on organisational leanness and health, without compromising the working and management relationships which are essential to the organisation’s continued success, to the quality of life of its employees and to the service it offers to its customers and other stakeholders.
Again, in all businesses and in many other organisations, there is an irreducible necessity for leaders and managers to understand the fundamental effects of finance. Modules in Corporate Financial Management and Accounting for Managers enable you to reflect upon and enhance your knowledge and expertise in the financial aspects of business, so that you will emerge with a clearer understanding of the financial bottom line, and of its effect on all aspects of Business and organisational strategy.
