MSc Finance and Accounting

Sheffield University Management School

If you are going to succeed in finance, accountancy or other management disciplines, this MSc at Sheffield University Management School will give you a competitive edge.

You will learn how to interpret accounting reports and the key skills essential for financial competence – critical if you are to excel in any field of business. Whatever career you choose to pursue, these skills will equip you for the future: entrepreneurs need financial insight to evaluate opportunities effectively and deal with banks and for a successful career in either an SME or multi-national, you will need to ground your decisions within a sound financial framework.

The techniques you acquire on our MSc in Finance and Accounting will give you a set of practical skills, as well as the academic know-how.

Working as a team is a vital skill in modern professional services, so group tasks and assessments are an essential part of the course. Alongside this, we believe that self-reliance is key: our academics, professional services and careers staff work with you to ensure the School’s graduates leave with the skills you need to function independently at a professional level.

The Course

Our MSc in Finance and Accounting is taught full-time over two semesters followed by a dissertation, through a combination of lectures, seminars, case studies, group work for collaborative learning and web-based discussion groups. Students are assessed through individual assignments, group projects, examinations and a management project.

The course begins in September and lasts over a full 12 months. Students who successfully complete the first semester but do not proceed receive the PG Certificate. Those who pass both semesters’ modules but do not complete the management project receive the Diploma.
