About The College

The Master of Science in Hospitality Management (M.S.) degree program is designed to meet the hospitality industry’s need for individuals who have a variety of professional, academic skills and advanced specialized abilities necessary to excel in the increasingly demanding arena of hospitality management. Individuals who develop these advanced skills can seek and fill hospitality management positions at the corporate, operational levels and educational field.

The master’s degree is a two-year program, which has been designed to develop effective and innovative managers. It attracts students from all over the world, bringing multicultural quality to the learning environment.

As a result, graduates of the Conrad N. Hilton College are serving in responsible positions worldwide with the finest firms in the hospitality industry, as well as teaching in higher education.

The Conrad N. Hilton College, one of 13 colleges comprising the University of Houston, has offered the masters of hospitality management degree since 1986. Most faculty members hold terminal degrees in their field and have been recognized for their teaching excellence. In addition, faculty members have extensive industry experience, competence and expertise in the areas that are important to the hospitality industry.

The Conrad N. Hilton College has initiated several innovative research programs demonstrating its determination to serve the dynamic industry in the global hospitality and tourism industries.

The college has the finest physical facilities in the world for the study of hotel and restaurant management. These facilities include an 86-room hotel property with 40,000 square feet of convention and meeting space, two full-service restaurants, state-of-the-art food production, service areas, a hospitality industry archive, and library; and the latest in technology contained in laboratories for management information systems, quantity food production, food product development and testing. M.S. candidates complete the program by assimilating theoretical and practical academic experiences through the production of their professional paper or master thesis.

General Degree Requirements

Graduate students will work with the graduate advisor to formalize a degree plan following admission into the program. All MS degree candidates must complete a minimum of 36 semester credit hours of graduate coursework to earn the MS degree. Students must also take at least 27 of 36 semester credit hours at Hilton College.

The curriculum for this program requires students to complete courses in five areas, including hospitality management core courses, support courses, a focus course, a professional paper or thesis and electives.

Scholarships are available for qualified students. These scholarships currently provide in-state tuition.
