Engineering, Product Design and Textiles specialisms - MPhil

The master of philosophy (MPhil) degree is aimed at students with a good honours degree (or significant work experience and professional qualifications) who wish to undertake a research-based masters degree. As an MPhil student you will critically investigate and evaluate an approved topic and demonstrate an understanding of research methods in your chosen engineering or design subject area. You will present and successfully defend a thesis by oral examination to be awarded the degree.

If you wish to develop research and analytical skills, this course is appropriate. If you are a professional who would like to gain postgraduate qualifications, but do not want to undertake a taught masters programme, then this is an alternative.

Careers & professional development

If you register for the MPhil you may be approved for transfer to a PhD after an initial period of registration and demonstration through a progress report of the development of your research into a PhD.
