The International Master’s Degree Programme in Space Sciences (MScSS) is organised jointly by the Department of Astronomy and the Department of Physics.

The goal of the programme is to give the students the outstanding skills they need both in postgraduate studies and in many other – often international – careers in space sciences or related fields. Your personal study plan can emphasise experimental or observational work or it can focus on the methods for data analysis or theoretical studies.

The study plan always includes basic courses and a number of special modules. These may be selected from an extensive syllabus, including lecture courses, laboratory exercises, observational work, data analysis, or computer simulations. You can also include in your personal study plan courses in space technology and remote sensing offered by Helsinki University of Technology. While the personal study plans may be different, all students participate in shared seminars for reporting on topics they have studied individually....

The International Master’s Degree Programme in Geoinformatics (GIMP) provides advanced training for students in the theory and techniques of geoinformatics and educates them to apply these principles and methods to the production, management and analysis of geographic information. You will also be trained to communicate cartographically in this interdisciplinary programme with special research interests in environmental management and conservation. GIMP supports the use and implementation of geographical information systems in various sectors of society, from the inventory of natural resources to urban planning.

The Master’s Degree Programme in Geoinformatics is organised by the Department of Geography in close collaboration with the Departments of Computer Science, Forest Resource Management, and Biological and Environmental Sciences. The syllabus of GIMP contains courses taught across Departments on three Campuses of the University of Helsinki. In GIMP, you work in a cross-cultural environment. You are trained to apply your goeinformatics knowledge to a variety of themes and regions from the undulating hills of Kenya to the bustling streets of Helsinki. The Geoinformatics programme is designed for qualified students who want to gain expertise in remote sensing, geographical information systems and cartography within an extensive network of specialists; and who want to gain professional skills highly valued in working life worldwide. Completing the programme, you will find employment opportunities in geography, land surveying, natural resources management, regional planning and development cooperation, scientific research,as well as in the GIS industry....
