Energy costs have become a critical issue since the worldwide consumption is increasing and production of greenhouse gases is limited. This drives to the situation where people who are educated to deal with minimizing energy usage to be in demand. These people have an appropriate knowledge to optimize the conversion and production of energy. The new joint programme of Materials and Processes of Sustainable Energetics offers a new and unique approach to energy issues. Programme does not teach how to produce more energy but how to use energy more efficiently.

 

Materials science and technology is traditionally strongly based on chemical science and education. In line with the development of new high tech materials, technologies and processes, their properties are studied at the Faculty. As a result of successful research in the field of new electronic materials, European and Estonian Centre of Excellence was established at the Faculty for the study of materials for solar energy. Extensive cooperation with Tartu University, European universities and industry are conducted as well, which gives students excellent possibilities for practicing and working abroad....

The faculty of Civil Engineering provides high quality and up-to-date engineering education. Civil engineering programmes, in addition to basic courses, provide students with knowledge in general engineering, economics and other related subjects.

 

The Faculty has very established professors. Last year the academician of TUT Professor Jüri Engelbrecht (former President of the Estonian Academy of Sciences) was elected as the President of the European Federation of the National Academies of Sciences and Humanities.

In May 2008 Applied Measurement Science Master’s programme was awarded a label of “Euromaster in Chemistry“. This high-ranking EU quality label was awarded to the University of Tartu as the coordinating university of the international consortium “Measurement Science in Chemistry" which includes nine universities from Poland, Slovenia, France, Portugal and other countries.

 

 

The importance of measurements and analyses is constantly increasing. More and more legal acts are issued that regulate measurement and testing. Fully functional quality systems accredited according to international standards like ISO/IEC 17025:2005 or GLP is now a must in most industries....

Financial and Actuarial Mathematics, MSc in Natural Sciences- is a 1-year Master’s program prepares specialists for financial sector, banking and insurance industries in quantitative methods of risk assessment and hedging.
