The Master of Antarctic Science is a specialised coursework Masters program in polar marine biology. It provides students with advanced instruction and training in emerging approaches and technologies in marine biology. The course is designed to produce expertly trained scientists with international experience and research skills in the area of Antarctic marine science.

MAntSc students will develop an understanding of the roles the Southern Ocean and the Antarctic marine ecosystem play in the global climate system. The MAntSc was developed as part of the new International Antarctic Institute (IAI) and the UNESCO/Cousteau Ecotechnie Chair in Antarctic and Southern Ocean Environmental Sciences. The IAI is a multi-disciplinary consortium of international universities. The International Master’s Degree Programme in Plant Production Science (MScPPS) is designed to give you an advanced understanding of the principles of sustainable plant production as well as to grant you the knowledge needed for further development of plant production in response to rapidly changing challenges in the food and agricultural sector.

The focus of MScPPS studies ranges from molecular and cell biology to agroecology and food production systems. MScPPS is organised by the Department of Applied Biology in close co-operation with the Nordic NOVA University Network, research institutes, and relevant industry. Aquaculture and Fisheries

You are interested in the wellbeing and management of living organisms in aquatic ecosystem. Possible fields of expertise include food production, recreation, nature conservation, aquarium systems and animals or a combination of these fields.

You will become a scientist in the field of aquaculture and fisheries. You are familiar with techniques and methods for analysing and solving technical and biological problems in aquatic ecosystems and you acquire solid, basic knowledge about fundamental biological and ecological processes. The acquired skills and knowledge enable you to develop and manage aquaculture or fisheries systems sustainably, to contribute to nature conservation or recreation in water-rich areas or regions, and to provide advice on keeping aquatic plants and animals in aquaria....

Modern molecular biology has opened up a whole new range of techniques and possibilities to scientists working in the different fields of the classical plant sciences (e.g. plant physiology, plant breeding, plant pathology). The combination of these disciplines forms a brand new domain: Plant Biotechnology.   

Domain

Due to rapid technological development in the plant sciences, genomics and molecular genetics, the use of molecular marker technology has accelerated the selection of new plant varieties with many favourable traits. It also facilitates the design, development and management of transgenic plants. Plant Biotechnology aims to impart understanding of the basic principles of the plant sciences and molecular biology, as well as the integration of these disciplines, to provide healthy plants in a safe environment for food, non-food, feed and health applications. The Animal Sciences Programme is a continuation of a BSc or equivalent programme in the field of livestock, companion animals, wild animal and Zoo animals. The focus is to deliver skilled professional animal scientists, well equipped to tackle problems related to sustainable livestock development as well as to management of companion animals, wild animals and zoo animals.

The animal - human interaction plays an important role in this programme. Theme's like nutrition, animal health, level of management, genetic composition and socio-economics factors are discussed .

MSc Animal Science

Todays livestock and companion animal specialists need a fundamental scientific training combined with a critical attitude towards all aspects constraining sustainable development of animal husbandry. As an animal scientist you work not only with farm animals such as cows, pigs and poultry, but also with companion animals (dogs, cats and horses), animals in the wild or zoo animals. Animal health plays an important role. You investigate how animal diseases can be prevented, for example by means of good nutrition, effective housing and by designing good breeding programmes.
