Program Overview

RIT's department of mechanical engineering offers two masters programs. The master of engineering is intended for the engineering professional who does not plan to study beyond the masters level, wants to customize his or her concentration of study to match professional objectives, and can apply the concentration to an internship at his or her place of business.

The MS is a more traditional applied research program, which includes a comprehensive core offering and a master's thesis.

This is a post-baccalaureate internship program leading to the professional degree of master of engineering. The objective of the program is to provide the engineering BS graduate the means for earning a terminal master's degree. The capstone experience for the Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree may be a course design project, a well-organized and carefully chosen industrial internship, or an independent study project, in place of the conventional thesis requirement of an MS degree. The M.Eng. degree is particularly well-suited to part-time study, students interested in updating their technical skills, and those who are not focusedon a researchoriented Master of Science Thesis....
