Introduction

The evolution of the concept of landscape witnessed over recent decades coincides with an inexorable human impact on nature at global level (and the consequent abuse of environmental resources), configuring an ever increasing interest of creative and knowledge disciplines towards the project solutions which will become real typologies of interventions by administrators, by who decides how to create landscape on territory. And yet, does a real gap still exist between artistic process and ways of intervening in the field of landscape planning? What are the work methods that profitably mix the visions of an architect with the projects, the technologies and the forms of representation used by artists when they explore and build a land area?...

Is the Master of Achitecture for you?

The problem based learning and inclusive approach to studio teaching is one of the strengths of the program at Newcastle. The projects in the first year of the program focus on large-scale urban design, mixed-use and the detailed design of high-rise buildings. These design projects emphasise creative, social, cultural and ecological issues relating to urbanism and the built environment. The final year of the program provides you with the opportunity to develop their own elective project over the course of the year, applying in-depth research and resolution to a singular design problem. Within a creative and innovative learning environment the final exhibited project explores the complexities of making buildings for the future of the built environment. The comprehensive way that each stage of the architectural design process is articulated, critiqued and developed provides you with a portfolio of work that reflects the making of buildings in the real world. Projects undertaken by students often have real world clients and reflect the challenging environment that architects find themselves. The program is supported by a number of visiting adjunct professors and leading architects including Ric LePlastrier, Peter Stutchbury and Peter Davidson....

Master in Urban Vision and Architectural Design

The Department was born with the objective to work on the whole universe of urban experience. In this perspective, the department has created a training project of excellence able to reflect on the changes and transformations of the built space, promoting a permanent research activity for design models and solutions that are appropriate and innovative.

The growth of new urban landscapes has determined a remarkable change in the organisation of the space: it is no longer the concentrated city, but it is the territory, the landscape, the container of everything. This new model of contemporary city can be assimilated to an archipelago where each unit has its own connotation, but where the social values as well as the activity are strictly connected with the relations existing with the other units....

Master of Architecture

• Business Administration and Management, particularly in the construction sector, has gone under rapid changes and developments in recent years. In addition to the increase in the emphasis on environmental issues and public welfare, rapid technological developments had an impact on the way the businesses practices were conducted.

Some of the recent trends and developments can be summarised as:• Increase in the use of computerised management information and control systems• Greater use of new technologies in construction.• Complexity of projects equipment and market share.• More use of industrialised building systems and components.• The new managers should be more sensitive to the environmental issues, public welfare and customer satisfaction. They also should follow up the recent trends and developments very closely by reading more and by participating in educational activities. • In order to meet these requirements the Faculty offers three masters programmes. The MA in Interior Design is intended for students who have completed their first degree in this subject. Similarly the MArch is designed for students who wish to advance their knowledge in Architecture and the MSc in Construction Management for those who wish to continue with more advanced studies in this subject. The basic teaching programmes of the last two masters are identical but the subject matter of the projects and thesis will relate directly to the subject matter of the degree....
