This innovative course is delivered by the Faculty of the Built Environment and the Bristol Business School. It delivers a valuable combination of business management and analysis skills, together with the knowledge and understanding of commercial real estate management, appraisal, valuation, investment and development.

Real estate may be considered as:An investmentThe place for real estate in any investment portfolio must be justified using sophisticated appraisal techniques. Such techniques have been used for the analysis of other investments for a number of years and are increasingly applied to the appraisal of real estate investments in order to provide comparatives measures of performance. It is vital that real estate investment advisors and analysts are capable of applying these techniques to the appraisal of real estate investment opportunities, understanding their application and being aware of their limitations. A development opportunityThe ability to advise on development opportunities now requires a thorough understanding of contemporary appraisal techniques, environmental and planning legislation and financial management. This course will impart the specialist real estate skills required to allow tactical and strategic advice in a development situation. This will include a balanced analysis in areas of finance, development and investment appraisal. A factor of productionIncreasingly, the requirement for business space is being questioned as organisations rationalise their resources. Master's programme in Real Estate Investment and Finance 

Master’s Programme in Real Estate Investment and Finance is a two-year (120 ECTS) programme leading to a Master of Science degree. The programme is organized jointly by two universities:

· Aalto University (School of Science and Technology)

· Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration (Hanken)

The programme strives to provide a Master’s degree of international standards and quality that give the students the required knowledge to work both in the fields of property market and financial intermediation. The field of real estate investment offers an interesting and challenging area for the application of modern financial tools. E.g. real estate investment decisions typically include different forms of real options that need to be evaluated. Real estate finance deals about how advances from modern finance theory can be applied on this area where the investment objects are very heterogeneous, and differ in terms of liquidity and transparency from many other marketable resources....

All Master’s programmes at EBS consist of a basic structure and lead to the Master of Science degree. Students are able to follow either a generalist route or select a specialist path to deepen their knowledge in a particular area. In all programmes students have the opportunity to acquire in-depth knowledge in selected specializations, gain international experience through studying abroad, and take advantage of EBS extensive business, social and professional networks.

An additional international degree can be acquired after spending another semester at selected international partner universities....

Graduates of the postgraduate property studies programs have a competent knowledge and understanding of the business environment; its relevance to real estate and development; the valuation aspects of real estate and development; and the key property sectors. They possess skills in critical evaluation and innovation, problem identification, analysis and decision-making; and communicate effectively in terms of verbal, written and graphic presentations.

The Master's degree programme in Real Estate Investment and Finance is a two-year programme organized by Hanken and Helsinki University of Technology (TKK). This programme is partly based on the one-year Master’s Programme in Real Estate Finance given by Hanken during 1999-2004. The language of instruction is English. The programme strives to provide a master's degree of international standards and quality that give the students the required knowledge to work both in the property market field and in the field of financial intermediation.
