Business with Marketing Management - MSc

Working in a large, modern, international organisation, a mediumsized company or even a small start-up firm requires a range of business capabilities. The most valuable employees are those who have not only a sound knowledge and understanding of the various parts of a business but those who are quick learners and team players with leadership potential. The MSc Business with .....programme suite will give students both the general business knowledge and understanding as well as the personal skills needed for a wide variety of roles.Who is this programme for?The programme has been developed for recent graduates in nonbusiness disciplines who wanted to add a business dimension to their undergraduate specialism. This programme has been very popular and has recently been extended by the addition of several pathways.Students can now choose between a general pathway with a wide variety of optional modules and a specialist pathway in which around half of the programme is concentrated on one functional area. This is very attractive to students who are interested in a particular area of business (e.g. marketing) but who need a more general introduction to business than is available in a specialist Masters programme.Students choosing one of the pathways have the opportunity to carry out independent research in their preferred specialist area. To be successful on this programme, you will need enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to not only work hard but learn new ways of thinking. We also expect you to show initiative and be able to work independently.Programme Content and StructureThe programme is designed around a set of modules that are common to all pathways. These modules cover general business functions, strategic management and organisational analysis. These modules also guide you towards the achievement of the generic postgraduate goals of strategic awareness, developing leadership potential and understanding the theory and practice of international business. In the second semester you will be given the opportunity to specialise in specific areas of business by choosing one of the pathways, such as Marketing Management. In the remainder of the programme you will complete your research and writing up of your dissertation. Every student has a personal research supervisor and will be required to submit an assessed research proposal prior to embarking on the dissertation itself.Below you can see a structure of each of the stages (all pathway modules specific to Business with Marketing Management in bold):Semester 1    * Developing Self (10 credits)    * Business Environment and Strategic Management (10 credits)    * Managing for Sustainable Competitive Advantage (40 credits) Semester 2    * Analysing Organisations (10 credits)    * Business Environment and Strategic Management (10 credits)    * Business Research Analysis (10 credits)    * Pathway Module – Relationship Marketing (10 credits)    * Pathway Module – International Marketing Management (10 credits)    * Pathway Module – Marketing Strategy (10 credits) Semester 3    * Dissertation – (60 credits) ...

Applied Business with Marketing Management - MSc

This is a new suite of programmes from Newcastle Business School and is presently only offered with a September start. The duration of the course is approximately 20 months. Students follow the first two taught semesters of the corresponding MSc Business with Management programme.Students then transfer to a full-time and salaried work placement instead of the dissertation stage. The placement will last for around 8 months (students are available for employment from early June in the year after they begin the course to January in the following year). This is followed by a work based project equivalent to the postgraduate dissertation and involving academic research but based around the work undertaken during the placement.Newcastle Business School cannot guarantee that every student will be able to be placed as the decision ultimately rest with the employers - however we have a very well established Placements Unit within the school with an extensive network of business partners and we are confident that this, combined with a rigorous selection policy means that the chances of successful placement are very high. Students who are unable to find an appropriate placement can transfer to the traditional version of the course and complete a dissertation. This innovative programme allows students to gain valuable work experience incorporated in their postgraduate degree and have a real business experience in which they can apply, expand, and reflect on the learning from the course.Applicants will, in addition to the normal entry criteria for general postgraduate programmes, be required to demonstrate high levels of English language competence (minimum IELTS 7.0 or equivalent unless all of their undergraduate degree is taught and assessed in English) and in addition must have a face-to-face interview with a member of staff from Newcastle Business School or the University's International Office. Places are extremely limited as this programme is rolled out.Although the tuition fee for this programme is higher than for the standard course (to cover the operational costs of the Placement Unit and to cover the cost of a member of academic staff making at least one visit during the placement period) it is envisaged that the salary paid by the company should more than cover the additional fee and living costs.Who is this programme for?It is expected that this course will be especially suitable for UK and European students who have recently graduated and were not able to undertake a work placement as part of their first degree or international students who are keen to stay in the UK to work after their postgraduate study under the Post Study Work Visa scheme. In either case the benefit of a reference from a significant period of full-time salaried employment will considerably enhance employment prospects.Multinational companies may also want to use the programme for staff development purposes by sending staff from abroad to study on the programme and to undertake the placement within a UK division of the organisation.Programme ContentBelow you can see a structure of each of the stages (all pathway modules specific to Applied Business with Marketing Management in bold):Semester 1    * Developing Self (10 credits)    * Business Environment and Strategic Management (10 credits)    * Managing for Sustainable Competitive Advantage (40 credits) Semester 2    * Analysing Organisations (10 credits)    * Business Environment and Strategic Management (10 credits)    * Business Research Analysis (10 credits)    * Pathway Module – Relationship Marketing (10 credits)    * Pathway Module – International Marketing Management (10 credits)    * Pathway Module – Marketing Strategy (10 credits) Semester 3    * Dissertation – (60 credits)...

The programme also contains core modules that provide students with key research and personal development skills. We have introduced two new modules as part of the programme revision. First; Direct and Interactive Customer Relationships that explores the use of personalised communications in a digital world. Second; Advertising and Marketing Communications Management, that looks at the creative planning and decision-making involved in campaign management. In the remainder of the programme you have the opportunity to explore in detail an aspect of marketing through the 15,000 word dissertation. A dissertation preparation course guides students through this key project and personal supervisors are appointed to advise on the initial proposal and will provide further guidance throughout....
