Interest in stress is increasing in terms of scientific research as well as the rapidly growing commercial stress management sector. This programme provides an academically respectable and science-based qualification in the study of stress, dealing specifically with the mechanisms by which psychological stress can induce illnesses and examining issues of measurement, prevalence and management.

Students look at how psychological states can affect physical wellbeing, in particular the role of stress in the development of various diseases, such as coronary heart disease (the biggest killer in the west) and metabolic disorders includingdiabetes and mental illnesses. Summary

This applied postgraduate programme develops students’ skills in intervention and audit strategies. Students carry out an intervention in an applied setting to either deal with populations or individuals particularly affected by levels of overweight.

Through this experience, students acquire a good understanding of the factors playing a role in the development of obesity and strategies to tackle it. While study of the background covers the entire range of factors, interventions focus on social andpsychological interventions. This programme is suitable for healthcare professionals such as practice nurses, teachers,sports coaches, and others interested in tackling obesity. This course aims to provide an introduction to the concepts and methods used in reproductive and sexual health research and to equip students with the principles, methods and research skills necessary to conduct policy-relevant research. It provides a non-clinical foundation in the main aspects of reproductive and sexual health: family planning, obstetric health and AIDS/STIs (not including laboratory-based studies). The MSc is Europe's only graduate course in reproductive health research, and is designed mainly for those interested in the developing world, but developed world issues are also accomodated.
