Master of Criminology and Corrections
The course is designed for practitioners already employed or active in the field of criminal justice/ corrections, and for students who wish to gain further professional knowledge and credentials in the field of criminology. The course will develop high-level critical thinking and applied skills for people researching and working in the criminal justice field.
The core Units - Criminological Theory & Practice, and Correctional Theory & Practice - lay the conceptual foundations for understanding and interpreting recent developments in criminology and criminal justice. This Master of Arts (Specialisation) on-campus, 1.5 years full-time (or, up to 6 consecutive years part-time) course is available at Hobart and/or Launceston (not all specialisations are available on both campuses). MA in Sociology and Social Justice
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Kean University Master's degree program in Sociology and Social Justice prepares students to address inequality based on identity categories such as race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and ability. It is the first of its kind in the state and in the region. Social justice is the study of how social advantages and disadvantages are distributed, the relationship between social identity and inequality, and the practice of reducing the gap between them at local, national, and global levels. It is a perspective for understanding and for action. The program further seeks to inspire a commitment to democracy and firm principles of egalitarianism and equity that will prepare graduates for positions in research, teaching, public service, business and other positions where they may serve as agents of social change. The program emphasizes the interplay between theoretical and applied approaches in sociology, provides students with an integrated culminating Practicum and Master's Thesis experience. MA in Gender and Culture
The diversity of research interests is one of the Department of English’s main strengths. English at Swansea was rated 4 in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise. The Department is home to the Centre for Research into the English Literature and Language of Wales (CREW) and to the Centre for Research into Gender in Culture and Society (GENCAS). The MA in Modern Celtic Studies draws on the expertise of the Faculty across a number of schools.
The MA is an interdisciplinary degree that offers a wide choice of courses offered by different departments in the fields of arts, humanities and social sciences.
