MA in Literary Translation
European Languages at Swansea incorporates the academic areas of French, German, Hispanic Studies, Italian, Russian and Welsh, together with the Centre for Applied Language Studies, all of which were rated at 4 or 5 in the last Research Assessment Exercise, while German, Hispanic Studies and Italian were graded ‘Excellent’ in the most recent national teaching quality assessment.

This well-established programme is designed to offer both an independent scheme of study for advanced linguists and a practical and theoretical training for those wishing to pursue a career in literary translation. It is also suitable for practising translators who do not yet have but wish to gain formal qualifications. MA in Welsh Writing in English
The diversity of research interests is one of the Department of English’s main strengths. English at Swansea was rated 4 in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise. The Department is home to the Centre for Research into the English Literature and Language of Wales (CREW) and to the Centre for Research into Gender in Culture and Society (GENCAS). Together with other research groups, these organize weekly research seminars, as well as regular symposia and conferences, and promote innovative research and publication in their fields.

Master of Arts (Specialisation)
This Master of Arts (Specialisation) 1.5 years full-time course is available on the Hobart or Launceston (depending on your specilisation). The program enables students to undertake a degree specialising in a Humanities area of their choice.
The following specialisations are available:
Aboriginal Studies Asian Studies Australian Studies Chinese Classical and Medieval Studies English German History Indonesian Japanese Philosophy (incorporating Gender Studies)Students may also undertake a program combining two of the above specialisations.

The Department of Foreign Language Philology of the Philipps-University Marburg has developed the new Master’s degree program Linguistics and Web Technology (M.A. L&WT), which has begun with 17 students from 14 nations in the Winter Term 2009/2010.
This program uses the experience gained through the Philipps-University Marburg’s Language Technology, a minor subject belonging to the Magister course of studies which has been run since 2002. It combines the contents of this course of studies with classes that incorporate the core elements of linguistics and language technology as well as an increased share of practical exercises.The program aims towards furthering the scientific knowledge of the participants and complementing their work experience....

The International Master’s Degree Programme in Semiotics is an Master’s programme hosted by the Institute for Art Research at the Faculty of Arts. Participating partners at the University of Helsinki are the Department of Sociology, the Department of Slavonic and Baltic Languages and Literatures, and the Christina Institute for Women’s Studies. Close co-operation through exchange agreements is carried out with 9 European universities and research institutes.The programme has interdisciplinary scope, bringing together approaches from related fields such as gender studies, musicology, and philosophy. Teaching is largely based on research and benefits from the Institute for Art Research’s high profile, where focus on semiotics has traditionally been in the analysis of music, literature, cinema, and in the elaboration of different theoretical paradigm, most notably those of American pragmatism, continental structuralism, existentialism, hermeneutics, zoosemiotics, and the theory of cultural semiotics.With the contribution of both Finnish and international experts working with the programme the students will specialise in their track of semiotic analysis.
