MA/ PgCert/ PgDip Equine Business Management
Through a combination of core pure business modules developed by the well-respected Bristol Business School and equine business specific modules, these programmes have been designed to develop your understanding of the equine industry. The MA will also help you identify career opportunities available within the industry from a business management perspective.
Throughout the programme we discuss the role of equestrianism as a sport, analyse the structure of equine industries, both nationally and internationally, and debate topical issues relating to the strategic development of the equine industry.
As a postgraduate student of Equine Business Management, you will be assigned a personal academic tutor who is there to provide you with advice and support during your time at Hartpury. Support for postgraduate study skills are also available during the induction period.
- Managing Finance and Information
- Meeting Customer Needs

Teaching, learning and assessment
Traditional lectures will only be one part of your course. You’ll also learn through syndicate work, group and individual presentations and discussions, student-led seminar groups, analysis and application of case studies, and experiential learning and simulations, including roleplays. Guest speakers from industry and professional bodies also contribute to the programme. These methods create an environment that is enjoyable, varied and hugely effective.
As a postgraduate student from our Equine Business Management programmes, you have the potential to pursue a range of careers; in particular those related to the equine industry, general business management and, specifically, equine business management or equine events management. Alternatively, you may decide to follow an academic career and progress on to a PhD.
We judge all applications on their individual merit, however we are typically looking for:
- 2:2 Honours degree or above in Equine Business Management, Equine Science or Business Management
Other approved accreditation or professional qualification
Relevant industry-based experience within a relevant field
Please note that applicants may be required to attend an interview, and every application will be considered on an individual basis.
The Postgraduate Certificate is a part-time programme, run between September and June of one academic year. The Postgraduate Diploma in Equine Business Management can be studied on a full time or part time basis. It can be a one year full time programme or it can be a progression route from the Postgraduate Certificate, in which case it is a one year part time programme. Both options run between September and June of one academic year.
The Masters programme can be studied as a full-time taught programme and completed in a twelve month period (September to August). If this programme is a progression from the Postgraduate Diploma in Equine Business Management then it will be studied on a part time basis.
