MA Communication Design
This programme brings together a critical analysis of contemporary design and the best in contemporary design practice. Our students explore the fast-changing world of design and the design industries and produce the sort of work those industries need. What is more, they look to the future of design and the emerging practices, technologies and businesses. Our students use their study of mass and social media, multi-lingual typography, digital, web and mobile media, visual communication and entrepreneurship to develop a portfolio of work, skills and critical thinking that industry needs.
With a focus on print and digital publishing this pathway brings practical design work together with the latest thinking about digital and social media, ePublishing and remix culture.
We explore editorial design and typography — the challenges faced and opportunities presented by tablets, mobiles and new hybrid print-online publications.
An emphasis on research ensures your work is grounded in the current critical debates within the communication design discipline. This also ensures your designs and design practices have relevance, impact and power in a distributed media space.
One such debate is the role of the designer in a remix culture where source material everywhere means anyone can and does design, where your carefully produced work can be remixed, reused, recontextualised or reworked. How do you design when you no longer have control?
Through lectures, practical workshops and reading groups, WSAmacd takes on these big questions and equips you with the practical and theoretical skills to deal with them.
By the end of the course you will have completed a portfolio of creative work and developed your professional skills so you have the analytical, strategic and business competences to secure employment in the media and design industries, or start your own business.
