The Master of Arts in economics requires 30 hours of coursework and a thesis. The core courses are identical to that of the M.E. PhD Preparatory Track. The MA also requires the student to complete two courses at PhD level.

An additional six courses (18 credit hours) of electives, including at least three courses (9 credit hours) of ECG electives, two of which (6 credit hours) are at the 700 level.
A thesis is required for the MA and MS degrees. Up to 6 credit hours of ECG 695 (Thesis Preparation) may be applied toward the major as ECG electives. The thesis requirement is met upon successfully passing a final oral exam. The oral exam consists of an oral defense of the completed written thesis before the student's thesis advisory committee.
