Our Finance and Management programme is designed to fast-track the careers of graduates from non-finance backgrounds who want to work in financial management for commercial and non-commercial organisations.

The programme uses the expertise of our renowned research-active academics to develop your knowledge and analytical skills in finance-relevant fields, and to ensure that you will graduate with essential skills to apply in practical work environments.

You will develop an understanding of business and management by studying across a range of areas, including marketing, HR, accounting, strategic management and in particular, finance. Your financial knowledge and skills will be further developed within accounting and finance modules.

All of our modules combine contemporary case studies with skills-based coursework, ensuring that you will pursue a programme where content is up-to-date, relevant and geared towards helping you achieve your ambitions.

Learning, teaching and assessment

Teaching on the Finance and Management programme is provided by our worldrenowned specialist staff using a number of methods, including: lectures, seminars, group work, feedback sessions, one-to-one sessions with programme tutors. Modules are assessed by a combination of examinations and skills-based courseworks.

Semester 1

Compulsory modules

  • Accounting and Performance Measurement (15 credits) – developing technical and analytical skills in accounting and financial management, this module introduces the financial practices of business and how these influence other functional areas.
  • Foundations of Corporate Finance (15 credits) – in this module you’ll get to understanding of how corporate finance relates to other corporate managerial activities.
  • Human Resource Management (15 credits) – the theory and practice of managing people including everything from recruitment and training to motivation and job design.
  • Marketing in the Organisation (15 credits)
  • Skills for Employability and Personal Development (two-semester)

Semester 2

Compulsory modules

  • Corporate and Wholesale Finance (15 credits) – develops an awareness of the evolution and strategic development of wholesale banking and finance over the past 30 years.
  • Financial Theory and Policy (15 credits) – develops a broad understanding of financial theory, including financial investments, securities, capital markets and the way in which financial risks and returns are measured and managed.
  • International Financial Management
  • Skills for Employability and Personal Development (two-semester)

Summer period

Compulsory modules

  • Current Issues in Finance (15 credits) – a specific focus on topical financial trends affecting today’s marketplace.
  • Financial Derivatives (15 credits) – gain an understanding of options, futures and other derivative instruments and their application in financial management.
  • Global Strategic Management (15 credits)

Entry criteria

A good honours degree (a high 2:2 or higher) in a non-finance field from a UK university or equivalent overseas qualification recognised by Loughborough University. Evidence of numerical proficiency as demonstrated through the study of mathematical or statistical subjects in some part of the first degree. Applicants with a finance degree are encouraged to apply for our specialist Finance Masters programmes: MSc Finance, MSc Finance and Investment, or MSc Corporate Finance.

English language requirement for international students

  • IELTS: overall 6.5 with minimum 6.0 in each component
  • IELTS is waived for International students based in the UK who either:
    • achieve a 2.1 academic classification from a UK university
    • OR who have studied in UK for 2+ years and meet the academic entry requirements for the programme
