Our Business Analysis and Management programme is designed to directly improve the employment prospects of graduates by teaching key functional business knowledge and skills.

Especially suitable for those seeking careers as business analysts or management consultants, students are trained in the core aspects of business management with particular emphasis on the development of a range of business modelling, data analysis and consultancy skills. Students will gain the foundational knowledge needed to perform effectively a set of key business analysis functions.

The programme content has been tailored from the research areas and specialisms of our world-renowned staff, meaning our students not only experience the very best teaching quality, but also graduate with the capability to contribute quickly and purposefully to the running of any organisation.

There is also a strategic theme within the programme to instil knowledge and skills relevant to middle management and to more senior roles for later in your career. Our modules use contemporary case studies and skills-based coursework, ensuring that our graduates can apply up-to-date and relevant knowledge to a range of business situations.

Learning, teaching and assessment

Teaching on the Business Analysis and Management programme is provided by our world-renowned specialist staff using a number of methods, including: lectures, seminars, group work, feedback forums, one-to-one sessions with programme tutors, and workshops. Modules are assessed by a combination of examinations and skillsbased courseworks.

Semester 1

October to January introduces our core management modules.

Compulsory modules*

  • Accounting and Financial Management (15 credits) – developing technical and analytical skills in accounting and financial management, this module introduces the financial practices of business and how these influence other functional areas.
  • Human Resource Management (15 credits) – the theory and practice of managing people including everything from recruitment and training to motivation and job design.
  • Operations Management (15 credits) – learn how organisations develop and distribute products and services effectively and efficiently.
  • Marketing in the Organisation
  • Skills for Employability and Personal Development (two-semester)

*Students with significant knowledge of a compulsory module may substitute it with another available module.

Semester 2

February to June builds on the core modules to develop a deeper understanding of problem solving in management.

Compulsory modules

  • Business Forecasting (15 credits) – employing ideas and structures from the core modules, students analyse a designated industry and a company within it in considerable detail.
  • Operational Research Methods (15 credits) – has been designed to provide an understanding of the techniques used to structure, model and optimise management decisions. In so doing, students have a very real opportunity to develop their skills in the analysis and modelling of management situations, and in applying the models, methods and computer software to address the decision problems faced. In a business world in which numerical, analytical and IT competences are increasingly valued, the materials covered in this module should greatly enhance students' potential in the job market.
  • Skills for Employability and Personal Development (two-semester)

Summer period

July to September further builds on the competencies you have learned during the course, instilling a vital understanding of business strategy.

Compulsory modules

  • Business Analysis and Planning (30 credits) – fosters a deeper and richer understanding of all the previously completed modules, by explicitly inviting students to integrate and build upon these learning experiences in the context of a management consultancy exercise.
  • Global Strategic Management

Entry criteria

A good honours degree (2:2 or higher) from a UK university or equivalent overseas qualification recognised by Loughborough University, typically in a non-business field though those with a business background will be considered. Evidence of numerical proficiency as demonstrated through the study of mathematical or statistical subjects in some part of your first degree.

Degrees must be obtained from a university or institution recognised by Loughborough University.

English language requirement for international students

  • IELTS: overall 6.5 with minimum 6.0 in each component
  • IELTS is waived for International students based in the UK who either:
    • achieve a 2.1 academic classification from a UK university
    • OR who have studied in UK for 2+ years and meet the academic entry requirements for the programme
