Introduction
A Proven Program from a National Leader
The George Washington University Master of Tourism Administration (MTA) program is one of the original graduate degrees in this area and has been operating for over 30 years. You will find our graduates at the tops of their professions.
The Accelerated Master of Tourism Administration (AMTA) program offers the same world-class graduate education as the MTA, but is packaged to meet the needs of working professionals who cannot come to our Washington, DC campus.
No Matter Where You Live, You Can Complete This Program
Our program is designed for the working professional and does not require traditional campus-based participation. Our delivery system is designed to provide a growing segment of the tourism profession with the opportunity to earn a graduate degree while continuing to work full-time in the industry.
Special aspects of the AMTA program include:
- Proven distance learning format
- Affordable off-campus tuition rates
- Individualized guidance based upon personal and career goals
- Interaction with internationally recognized faculty
- Networking opportunities with industry professionals
- Links with international and domestic tourism organizations within the region, North America, and the world.
Concentrations
AMTA students will develop advanced skills in the Event & Meeting Management, Sport Management, or Sustainable Destination Management fields. These concentration areas prepare students for management careers in tourism and hospitality in private and public organizations as well as industry associations.
Event & Meeting Management enables students to gain a practical and theoretical understanding of special events, expositions, festivals, conferences, meetings, and celebrations.
Sport Management prepares students to market and manage sport events, organizations, products, and athletes as well as sport tourism destinations and facilities.
Sustainable Destination Management focuses on the comparative advantage and competitive positioning of tourist destinations. Emphasis is placed on minimizing the negative impacts of tourism and preserving cultural and natural resources, while optimizing tourism's overall contribution to economic development in host communities.
In addition to the online courses, students are required to attend two one week, in person, Residency periods--one at the beginning (Inaugural) and one near the end (Capstone) of the program of study.
